How the result is calculated
Roles describe a company's evidenced function in the semiconductor value chain, not its prestige or total revenue.
A company can occupy more than one role, but each classification should be supported by a named product, customer relationship, filing, technical document or institutional source.
The finder distinguishes commercial suppliers from research institutes, regional ecosystem bodies and companies whose semiconductor exposure is only indirect.
What the result cannot establish
- The result is a research starting point, not supplier certification.
- Customer identities are often confidential, so product-level evidence may be stronger than a named customer.
- Capabilities and ownership can change after mergers or divestments.

Frequently asked questions
Is every Brainport manufacturer a semiconductor supplier?
No. Location in the ecosystem is not enough. The classification needs evidence of a semiconductor-related product, process or customer relationship.
Can one company have several roles?
Yes. A precision manufacturer may also provide modules, testing or engineering services. Each role should be evidenced separately.
Does the finder rank suppliers?
No. It classifies functions and evidence requirements. It does not score quality, importance or investability.
