The commercial reading

This plays directly to the Netherlands' strongest semiconductor advantage. Brainport Eindhoven already functions as a dense regional system containing ASML, NXP, equipment suppliers, precision engineering, research and technical education. The Czech cluster offers a different specialisation around power electronics, design and equipment. Chips Act 2.0 could make those differences more valuable by rewarding complementary regional strengths rather than encouraging every country to build the same type of fab.

What to watch next

The real test is which regions win formal recognition, strategic-project status and faster permitting, and whether the labels alter private investment decisions. Europe does not need more semiconductor maps. It needs regions where power, land, housing, skills, suppliers and permitting are available at the same time.
